Employment Interview

Please list position(s) for which you are applying:

Receptionist.

Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

I have worked as a receptionist for the majority of my life, in several settings; working with children has always been one of my ambitions, however. Highgrove Home For Children seems like an ideal place to work, due to the proximity to my family (my brother, Dr. Gabriel Samedi), the job opening in the exact position of my expertise and the fact that I could help support children in need.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

Since my early twenties, I have worked in three different administrative roles. As I have spent approximately twenty-five years working, I would consider myself to be a very experienced, responsible and professional receptionist. I have experience in using modern technology, such as computers, answering the phone, booking appointments, and everything that you would expect a receptionist to be competent at.

Do you posses the necessary qualifications for the position(s) for which you are applying? If yes, please list them below:

There are no formal qualifications needed for this role, as far as I am aware, but I do possess a Typing Qualification, with a gold award (sixty plus words per minute). Aside from this, I simply possess twenty-five years of experience.

What other qualifications or skills do you possess which you feel will aid your performance in the chosen position(s)?:

I have a first-aid certificate, that I first gained when working in a hospital. I continue to update this once a year, attending courses, as I believe it is a valuable asset to have - one never knows when it will be needed. I have excellent organizational skills, remembering and taking care of all the small details to ensure that my superiors have a stress-free time. Usually, I am calm and level-headed during emergencies, and have very good people skills.

Have you worked in this type of position or facility before? If so, where and when?:

Never.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions there, company names, and locations:

In my lifetime, I have only been employed at three different facilities, as a receptionist each time. My first job was working at a Wiltshire Printing and Co (now closed down). This was a wonderful place to work, and I stayed there for ten years, until the company closed down due to financial difficulties.  Shortly after this, I was offered a position as a receptionist at a local hospital, Spire South Bank Private Hospital. This was again in Wiltshire, and I worked here for eight years, choosing to leave when I discovered another job opening in Dorset: I had been looking for a change in the workplace for a while, and moving to a new job in a new county was exactly what I needed. I moved to Southbourne, Bournemouth, and worked for the Dorset Police Authority, where I have been for the past seven years. However, staff are being laid off in every department, and I unfortunately have been one of them, due to financial problems once again. It has been an excellent experience, however, and I do not regret a second of it.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

Working in a hospital and in a police force has given me contact with young people, particularly ill -sometimes mentally- and criminal ones. Because of this, I have had more contact with troubled youths that the average receptionist will have had.

Psychological Evaluation

Please describe yourself to the best of your ability, in only five words. ('And' will not count towards these.):

Dependable, calm, motherly, patient and organized.

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

During times of stress, I often withdraw into myself, tending to spend time doing menial tasks; knitting, sewing, cleaning etc. These tend to be very effective, as they allow me to blow off steam whilst thinking about the problem at hand, and what I can do to solve it.

Please list three traits about yourself that you consider negative, and three traits about yourself that you consider positive. Explain these choices if necessary:

On the negative side, I often worry too much about things that are out of my control, tending to stress about those when I could be putting my energies to better use. I often blow up small situations until they appear bigger than they are in my mind, and I suppose that I often take things personally. However, my positive traits would include my excellent organizational skills, my ability to put people at ease and connect with others and the attention I pay to the small details, making the big picture better overall.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I believe I would change my decision to not have children, never seeking marriage as as young girl. At forty, I found myself too old to marry and too old to bear children, which has been a tremendous upset for me.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

I would explain my reasons behind not being able to complete the task, and hopefully convince them not to carry it out as well. If I believed that somebody would be hurt as a result of this, I would take further action, possibly reporting it to somebody external from the business I was in. Under no circumstances would I let my morals be swayed.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

I would tell them that, although it would be hard to do, I would have to report them to a superior, and that I would feel as though I did not have an option in the matter; my loyalty would not go so far to risk the well being and livelihood of others.

Environmental Screening

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I grew up in the Cotsworlds, specifically in Salisbury, Wiltshire. I loved the area, and it was a regret to leave for Dorset, where my latest job working for the police authority has been. The town was fairly small, and exactly what you would imagine an old English town to be like; hills and fields, a small forest, quaint little houses. It is probably my favorite place in the world, and I return there yearly for a short holiday over the summer, usually staying with my mother who still lives there.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

As a young girl, I wasn't extraordinarily social, preferring to spend my time sewing or reading rather than running around with other children from the local neighborhood. I spent the majority of my time with my brother, Gabriel, and the two of us were very close. Generally, however, I spent the majority of my time alone, as was the way I preferred it; I have always been introverted.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

When I was born, there were not many career choices available for a girl; the standard path tended to be into nursing or administration. I chose to become a receptionist rather than anything medical, and I have never regretted this decision.

Were you ever a member of the armed forces or of a law enforcement or security agency? If yes, please list rank and branch, or company name and location:

For the past seven years, I was a receptionist for the Dorset Police Authority, obviously in Dorset.

Do/Did you ever abuse controlled substances, including but not limited to alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs and tobacco?:

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If yes, please list conviction(s) and served sentence(s) below:

No.

Out Of Character Section

Is there anything your character isn't telling us? Do you have more information to add about your character that they would not tell the representative about? Please explain below:

Well, she deigned to mention her mild-moderate alcoholism, which has plagued her ever since her early twenties, being the main reason she never married. This was as a result of the physical, sexual and mental abuse that she and Gabriel suffered as children, at the hands of their father.

Miranda is also lying about never having had children; once, when very drunk, she went home with a man whose name or face she never remembered after the event. Several months later, she discovered that she was pregnant. If it had not been for her miscarriage, she would have kept the baby. It happened in her third month, before she was showing; nobody has ever found out about the little girl or boy she could have had, and she plans that nobody ever will. However, this is part of her desire to work with children: she believes that the drinking binges she had before discovering the pregnancy were what caused the death of her child, and she longs to make amends for that, by helping others.

But don't fret! Just follow the steps given to you below and edit your application appropriately. When you're done, please reply to this thread to let us know that the application has been edited, and we will review it again.

  • Just a couple of minor tweaks we need before we can get Miranda approved!
  • First off, it's Bournemouth, not Southbourne. Southbourne is a suburb, Bournemouth is the city.
  • You have a few inconsistencies in the story, for example, she states she's worked in 'various settings' and 'Various administrative roles', but then later says she's only had three jobs, and she says she never married, then in the next sentence that she feels she's too old to marry again.
  • Where in Wiltshire did she live? It's a county, a pretty big place really; and the Cotswolds covers an even larger area. It's also right next to Dorset, and looks largely the same, not a great choice if she wanted a change of scenery!

Hopefully, I've got everything!

No idea how I managed to screw up the address, that's actually where I used to live. >.<
