Spoken Interview With Highgrove Representative
Representative: Thank you for meeting with me today. We will now begin the recorded interview. I will ask you a series of standard questions. Please try to answer them to the best of your ability. So, firstly, how are you feeling today?
Resident: Um... I guess... nervous maybe.
Patient Observation: Mr. Sharpe fidgets frequently, appears nervous.
Representative: And what circumstances have led you to apply for residency at the Highgrove Home for Children?
Resident: Well, actually my parents are the ones who... you know. They think I'm a looney I guess, ever since I came home from boarding school. I don't really want to leave home again.
Representative: Do you have any medical conditions we should be aware of? If so, please explain.
Resident: No. I don't think so.
Representative: Have you ever been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness? If yes, have you ever been hospitalised or sent to a special care facility for these illnesses?
Resident: Uh... yes. I see a psychiatrist in Mayfair who says I have some kind of anxiety disorder sort of thing. He prescribed me... xanax, I think it was. It helps me sleep at least, stops my mind going all the time. I've never been to a mental hospital or anything though. That would be... horrid. I did go to casualty a few weeks ago though. They stiched my arm.
Representative: How does your current state of mind affect your day to day life? Are there any incidences of note which you feel are a direct result of your state of mind, such as suicide attempts, arrests, hospitalisations, et cetera?
Resident: Well, I guess it's why I wanted to come home from boarding school. The boys there were pretty rotten. They picked on me a lot, you know? It's why I don't want to go away from home again. It's better here. I'd rather stay in my room.
Representative: have you ever harmed yourself, others, or animals? If yes, please explain.
Resident: Oh... uh...
Patient Observation: Cecil seems troubled by this question. Fidgeting increases. He is encouraged to answer the question after a pause.
I... I guess so. I mean, I wasn't trying to kill myself or anything! I'm not... you know, loony. It just... Well, it makes the nosie stop. You know, the world? Everything. It sort of... it sort of feels better.
Representative: We understand you are having trouble at your current place of residence. Could you please describe the problems you are having, and the results or repercussions that have come about because of them?
Resident: Mum and Dad are really upset with me. I guess they think I'm crazy, and they don't want a crazy as a son. I really try not to be, but my psychiatrist agrees with them. And then a few weeks ago I was in my room and I just... I just wanted it all to be quiet for a while. I guess I cut a little too deep, because the bleeding wouldn't stop this time, and I wound up having to tell Mum. She pretty much had an aneurysm and rushed me to casualty to get it stiched up. After that, they both pretty much freaked out and said I needed to go somewhere quiet and get help. I guess that means they don't want me around for their friends to see. ... You're not going to tell them I said that, are you? I... I didn't mean that.
Representative: What five words would you use to best describe yourself?
Resident: Five? Um...
Patient Observation: Cecil seems to struggle to choose words to describe himself, picking at the table top evasively. He is once again encouraged to answer the question.
Uh... Skinny? Um... not good at sports? That's not a word. Sorry. I don't know really.
Patient Observation: We move on to the next question.
Representative: Do you have many friends? Could you describe your relationships and where you met these friends?
Resident: No. I don't really have any friends. I'm kind of the loser at school. I spent a lot of time with one of the prefects at boarding school. He was tutoring me after school. My parents don't know I was getting tutoring though. Please don't tell them.
Representative: How would you describe your relationship with your biological family? Did you spend much time with them? Do you have any siblings?
Resident: We don't really spend any time together, except dinner sometimes, when they're not out with friends or clients. I had a few different nannies when I was little, but I haven't had a nanny for a long time now. I mostly just stay in my room. I don't have a brother or sister or anything. Sometimes I wish I did.
Representative: Are you sexually active? If yes, are you aware of any sexual preferences regarding gender or situation?
Resident: Patient Observation: Cecil appears shocked by this question and becomes evasive and fidgetty again. He later appears embarassed. Once again he has to be encouraged to answer the question.
I... yeah. I... guess so. Do I... really have to answ- Oh, okay. Um... I mean, there was a boy in boarding school. He was kind of... rough, I guess? I didn't really want him to... you know. But I sort of just... went along. Now it's like it's stuck in my head. I think about it a lot. I think about him a lot. Maybe I am kind of sick after all. I don't want to be, but...
Patient Observation: Cecil appears emotionally upset. The interview is paused long enough for him to regain composure.
Representative: Where did you grow up, and what was it like there? How do you feel about where you grew up?
Resident: I grew up here in Highgate. It's pretty nice really. We've got tennis courts out back and all that stuff. My parents are kind of rich, so yeah. I guess I like it okay. I've got a big room to myself, and lots of games and books, and the piano. I don't really go outside much. I prefer it indoors.
Representative: How is school? What are your grades like, and do you enjoy it? Do you participate in any after-school activities?
Resident: School's... okay I guess. I get pretty good grades because I work really hard. My parents want me to be a doctor when I grow up so I have to get the best grades. I do struggle sometimes though, which is why I got tutoring at boarding school. I don't really enjoy it though. I wish I could have tutoring at home, but Dad says I need to get out of the house. That's also why he makes me go to this country club with him on the weekends. We hunt fake foxes in fancy jackets. I'm not a very good rider though, and I don't like it when it's cold and raining. I don't really like the horses either. I'd rather not go, but I don't argue about it. Dad says it builds character, and it's what learned gentlemen are supposed to do.
Representative: What do you hope to find at the Highgrove Home, and how do you feel about potentially becoming a resident there?
Resident: I suppose if I have to go I'd like to find people who are... nice maybe. The boys at boarding school weren't very nice. I wish I could just stay home, but I guess I'm not. So I hope there's a piano. And I hope the classes are good enough that I can still get into medical school.
Representative: Lastly, how do you feel about what you have done so far with you life, looking back on it. If you have done unacceptable things, how do you now feel about those?
Resident: Um... bad?
Patient Observation: Cecil seems to be searching for the correct answer, but we end the interview here.

Is there anything your character isn't telling us? Do you have more information to add about your character that they would not tell the representative about? Please explain below:
For the most part, what you see is what you get. Cecil is a newly blossiming, self harming, anxiety ridden sexual masochist. He's very pressured by his parents to be the perfect son, which he secretly resents, but he's too meek to rebel. The boy he mentions from boarding school is an upper year prefect named Robert, who did indeed start out tutoring Cecil, but moved from 'tutor' to something much closer, mostly against Cecil's will. he was threatened to keep his mouth shut about it else Robert tell his parents about his shoddy grades. Robert is the reason he asked to come home, and is also the source of a lot of Cecil's anxiety; and of course his other issues.

Behavioural Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Reporting Staff Name: Dr. Matthias Savage
Behavioural Observation: Cecil attempted to send a letter to his mother pleading that he be allowed to go home. The letter implies that he is surrounded by “homicidal maniacs” and fears for his safety.
Measures Taken: The letter has been intercepted and placed in his file. Also, an individual therapy session has been scheduled to evaluate his current condition.

Incident Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Reporting Staff Name: Dr. Maxwell Rose
Notes: Patient was found in the men's room during the Christmas celebration after being attacked by a still unknown assailant. Initial examination on sight revealed a broken nose and a split in the back of his head, both injuries bleeding. Cecil, along with the other boy, were taken to he medical building to be tended to. Medical report to be attached later.
Therapy Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Therapist Name: Dr. Maxwell Rose
Patient Observations: Cecil was fidgety and nervous through the entire session. He stared off into the room, unable to look at me, only actually making eye contact when I said we'd stop the questions. he was obviously afraid of something, unable to sit still and constantly gripping the blankets. He seemed relieved when I ended the questions and reluctant to take the pain medication provided. This coupled with the reports that he was aroused when he was found and during treatment for his wounds leads me to believe that Cecil might not be self harming as originally thought but a sexual masochist. Further therapy sessions, either with Dr. Savage or myself should focus on this fact.
Therapy Report: I went to question Cecil about the incident and immediately he insisted that he fell. The hast of his answer and then his inability to give any other clear answers tells me this was planned but he didn't think anything else through. His story then changed to not remembering much and that it was all black after dinner but I reminded him about this earlier statement that he fell. I asked if he knew which way he fell and after some thought he 'guessed' that he fell forward then backward. I asked if he remembered anything else, such as if anyone else has been in the room, and he began significantly upset and was difficult to understand. At this point I ended the questioning and attempted to calm him by just talking and I even told him he was allowed to come by my office at any time.
Notes: Cecil was lying through most of the session and I suspect it's due to fear of the one who attacked him. Although, given the nature of what could be a new diagnosis it isn't possible to rule out that the encounter was consensual and then took a turn. It should be noted that Cecil was found in the bathroom with Isaiah Petit, another boy diagnosed as a sexual masochist. I do not believe they were hurting each other given their injuries but they should be monitored closely just in case.

Re: Cecil Sharpe
Mum,
Maybe you didn't get my letter yet or something. Or maybe you think I'm just making stuff up. But I'm really not, I promise. I didn't mean to sound so weird before, but I swear I'm not making this up. I'm not! This place is hell! You sent me to hell! My roommates want to kill me, or themselves, or anyone. They're all crazy people, and I'm not a crazy person! I was just being stupid, and I won't do it again.
My Christmas was horrible! My nose is broken and they had to stitch my head up. I told you I'm not making it up! Please, send the car for me. Please! I think I will go crazy if I stay in this place, and then they'll never let me into med school! I'll even go back to boarding school if I have to, only don't leave me here, please! I'm afraid of what's going to happen to me if I stay here. I don't have any friends and I'm lonely, and they make me feed the animals and shovel droppings in the cold and the rain. I feel like everyone hates me, and they're all so deranged!
I want to come home!
Cecil
... P.S. Thank you for the Christmas presents.

Re: Cecil Sharpe
Mum,
I know you don't really care, which is obvious from the fact that you haven't even replied to my other letters, but I really need to get out of here now. I'm not joking around, not that I was before. I'm deadly serious, with an emphasis on deadly. If you won't help me and save me from this place then I'll have to find another way. I doubt you want me back at home, but I've been doing a lot of thinking, and you're right. I probably am crazy. But I don't belong here, and if I don't get out of here soon I might never get out of here.
If I don't hear back from this letter I'll assume you've just written me off entirely. I'll assume I'm on my own. Though I guess that's no different from usual really. You're hardly ever there anyway. You never listen to me or spend time with me, and Dad's more interested in his clients than his own son anyway, which he makes painfully clear. If you care at all, you'll come and get me, or at least send the car for me if you can't even bear to spend a few hours in a vehicle with me. I'll see the stupid therapist and I'll take the stupid meds if you'll just let me come home.
Your son, (in case you forgot)Cecil

Re: Cecil Sharpe
Therapy Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Therapist Name: Dr. Maxwell Rose
Patient Observations: Cecil entered the group therapy room and seemed afraid, scanning it like he was looking for someone. I can only assume he was looking for Harold. He took a seat beside Milton and through the session there was casual conversation between the two. As it was not disruptive to the group and not inappropriate in manner I allowed it. Throughout the session Cecil reached up to scratch behind his ear, a behavior I have noticed in the boy over time but did not think much of until now. As he becomes more and more nervous he seemed to have the compulsion to scratch. He was eventually asked to sit on his hands and he became indignant and tense afterward. Cecil was asked to remain in the hall so that I could speak to him after I tended to another resident. When he came back in he resumed sitting on his hands. After not getting much out of him he was permitted to leave but he stopped and spoke more. Afterward he was released.
Therapy Report: The topic was feelings and the children were instructed to tell me how they felt. No specific topic was given because I wanted them to be honest. Cecil's response was quick and he started with angry before correcting himself with disgusted. He then changed his mind yet again and said he was fine. I asked why he was angry and he said he wasn't that he was fine. I moved on from Cecil at that point, knowing that the boy would keep denying his feelings. He seemed to relax when he thought he got away with the answer and that had been the point. Cecil is most honest when he's taken by surprise.
At the end of the session I spoke about honesty, trying to make the children understand that by being honest with their therapists and the staff that they stood a chance to leave Highgrove and live their life. I had hoped Cecil would answer but when he didn't I asked him to wait in the hall while I spoke to Ace. When he came in he sat and once again I asked why he was angry. He said he guessed wasn't really angry and hinted that Aubrey made him uncomfortable. His answers were evasive and didn't take the opportunity to open up. I told him he may leave but reminded him that if he wanted to leave Highgrove he'd need to talk to me and tell me what was going on. He stopped half way to the door and began to speak with his back to me. Since this seemed to make it easier for him to open up I allowed it.
The topic turned immediately to Harold and he told me he felt that the other boy was going to do something. Cecil seemed confident that he'd overheard him telling the staff about what he'd done. (Note: During the blackout, after a fight with Harold, Cecil admitted that the other boy had been sexually abusing him and forcing himself on him for some time) He added that Harold makes him feel certain things and that he's confused about the boy. He went on to say that he'd seen Harold in the halls the day before and the boy looked "really pissed off." Cecil added that Harold pushed him into a wall as he passed.
Notes: I will continue to work with Cecil on his issues and hope to help him achieve his goal of leaving Highgove. I will be placing Cecil on anti-anxiety medication starting tomorrow. I also recommend that Harold and Cecil be kept separate at all times and not allowed any contact. Any staff who see the two in close proximity should split them up and inform myself or Dr. Bjorgen.

Behavioural Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Reporting Staff Name: Dr. Maxwell Rose
Behavioural Observation: After witnessing Cecil smash his hand in a door in a restricted area of the house he was taken to the North Cumbria Area Hospital. After receiving surgery he was returned to Highgrove. In the recent weeks I have taken Cecil to the hospital for multiple visits to check on the progress of the hand. The pins have come out and his hand is now in a cast.
Measures Taken: After returning to Highgrove Cecil was placed in seclusion and has remained there since. Given his mental and emotional state I felt that keeping him in a place where he could be monitored was beneficial to the healing of his hand. He's been medicated with the hospital prescribed 50mg of meperidine hydrochloride as well as 1mg of lorazepam. Cecil has been allowed to come down for meals and has received exercise several times a day. Now that the pins are out and the cast is on he will be rejoining the population. He will continue to receive the lorazepam, although he will be switched from IV to oral, and will be on 5/500mg of hydrocodone for the pain as needed.

Re: Cecil Sharpe
Therapy Report
__________________________________________________________________
Resident Name: Cecil Sharpe
Therapist Name: Dr. Maxwell Rose
Patient Observations: Cecil was first to arrive at the session and he took his seat without a word. As Cecil is currently on medication for both his hand and his mental state he was mostly vacant through the session. I had to ask some questions multiple times to get him to focus and he spoke out of turn toward the end of the session. There isn't much else to report on behavior.
Therapy Report: The topic today was family and while I had not concrete plan, I was interested in the reactions of the residents to the subject. It was a sensitive subject for them all. Cecil defined family as quote: "soulless, bloodsucking, money-grabbing, greedy imposters." I asked again, wanting him to give me a general definition rather than focusing on his family. He replied that they were genetic donors and seemed saddened by this idea. He added that the thought was depressing. When I came back around to Cecil and asked why he thought of his family this way he simply responded because they were. I asked him to elaborate and he said they were soulless and only cared about money and their reputation. I felt that the medication was preventing Cecil from really explaining and exploring his feelings toward his family so the questioning ended there.
Cecil spoke out of turn when I got around to Keziah, commenting on the question I was asking her. This sparked the discussion that took us off the topic of family. I felt that this was an okay turn of events and continued with it. This was then the topic turned to why the kids were there. I asked by show of hands which would prefer to go back to their old life or stay at Highgrove. Cecil raised his hand with the others although he did not elaborate on his reasoning.
Notes: Cecil medication will continue for now although I may lower the dose of Lorazepam for our next session. I do want to go into detail about his parents and why he feels the way he does about them.
