Medical Screening

Do you have any ongoing medical conditions for which you require long-term treatment or medications?

No, I do not.

Are you aware of any allergies you may have to foods, medications or environmental elements? If so, please list them below along with age of onset.

I get a little sneezy in the springtime, probably from all the pollen in the air. I don't think I'm really deathly allergic to anything, though.

Do you take any other medications or drugs not prescribed to you, or participate in the consumption of alcohol or tobacco?

I don’t touch drugs or alcohol, because I don’t want to take in anything that might cloud my mind. I need to be alert to the purposes Father has for me.

Environmental Screening

Where were you born and where did you grow up? What was it like there?

I was born in Chatham, Kent. I grew up in a small, three bedroom flat above a shop owned by my maternal grandparents. There were six of us in that flat, and I'm the eldest. I shared a room with my younger sister, Corrine. My younger twin brothers, Colin and Cooper, also share a room. Mum and Dad raised us to be polite a respectful. We went to church every Sunday, prayed and read the Bible as a family, did our chores and homework, and were expected to behave ourselves in public. Really, I don't see why I had to be taken away from my family. Everybody ought to live like that.

What Clarice fails to mention is the fact that her father works in construction, and often has to be away at a job site, sometimes for days at a time. I have also been informed by Clarice's grandparents that her mother was in the habit of sleeping with other men while her husband was out of town. I don't know if Clarice is aware of her mother's infidelity, and even if she is, she would be in deep denial about it. Clarice was largely raised by her deeply religious maternal grandparents who live nearby, although she prefers to be seen as belonging to a more traditional family dynamic.

Please describe your relationships with your biological family, including parents, and siblings if applicable.

I obviously love my family. I was lucky to be born to parents who taught me to respect God and others. My brothers are young, only seven, and try to be good boys. Corrine, who is thirteen, is far too impressed by the trappings of the world, despite my attempts to persuade her away from such things.

Clarice's attempts to 'persuade' her sister have included her throwing away or destroying her sister's property such as make-up, clothing, and CDs. She feels that her sister is too young for the clothing and make-up she wears, that it is too revealing and provocative despite that by modern standards, her sister was often quite modestly dressed. She also disapproved of her sister listening to popular music, saying that popular music only serves to glorify wickedness. She's also gone so far as to write 'harlot' across her sister's forehead while Corrine was asleep, and also established a pattern of bullying and verbal abuse towards her.

How were/are you in school? How are your grades? Do you enjoy school?

I endure school because I know that Father expects his servants to educate themselves. My grades have never been at the top of my class, but I do try my best.

Clarice does not enjoy school largely because she does not enjoy other people. She feels that she should be exempted from school because she believes that she has a special status as an 'Instrument of God'.

Do you participate in any extracurricular activities or belong to any after-school clubs?

I do not. I devote myself fully to the worship of my God. If I didn’t know that God wanted me to go to school and educate myself, I’d have given that up too.

If you no longer reside with your biological family, please describe any previous homes as well as your current situation.

I was taken away from my family six months ago, after that unfortunate incident involving my teacher. The woman running the group home I live in now won't tell me why I can't go home.

The 'incident', which I will go into more detail about below, involved Clarice harassing one of her teachers to the point where the woman resigned.

Do you have many/any friends? If so, please describe them.

I find children, particularly girls, my age hard to relate to. They don't understand me, and I don't want to be sucked into their shallowness.

Clarice holds herself above others, though she makes a show of being humble. She has little in common with her peers.

Are you sexually active? Are you aware of any gender preference, or preferences in intimate practices, activities or situations?

I believe in abstinence until marriage.

Clarice fears she may be bisexual, and worries that it makes her more common. She is sexually inexperienced not only due to her religious beliefs, but also because she doubts that there exists anyone worthy of her.

Have you ever knowingly committed a crime? Were you caught and convicted? If convicted, what was your sentencing?

I believe that the actions I took regarding my teacher were termed harassment, although that certainly wasn't my intent. As an educator of young minds, she ought to have known better. Most people my age are known to be extremely impressionable.

A teacher at Clarice's school, who taught both biology and sex ed, became the object of Clarice's wrath when not only did she refuse to teach creationism alongside evolution, but also urged the school to provide free condoms, and passed them out herself during her sex ed class. Clarice not only campaigned to have the teacher fired, but sent anonymous hate mail including death threats, graffitied her car, and lied about being sexually assaulted by the teacher. A court sent her to me for therapy, and removed her from her home, placing her in a home for troubled girls. She has a restraining order taken out against her by the teacher, and was required to complete two-hundred hours of community service.

Clinical Screening

Have you ever been diagnosed with any psychiatric ailments by a medical or psychiatric professional? If yes, please explain below.

When I was taken away from my parents, the therapist they sent me to diagnosed me as Narcissistic and Delusional. This is not true.

Clarice is deeply in denial about her problems. She not only holds herself above others as being special, but she also firmly believes that she has been chosen by God. When questioned about these beliefs, and how she arrived at that conclusion, she either becomes hostile, withdrawals, or quotes passages of the Bible. She doesn't appear to suffer from hallucinations regarding her relationship with God, or else she would surely hold those as proof of her 'purpose'. She has a hard time dealing with situations in which she feels ignored or belittled, and requires an unreasonable amount of praise from others in order to function on any sort of social level. She shows little remorse for her actions, although I am confident that she knows that they are wrong.

Please describe any incidents associated with these ailments, such as antisocial behaviours, social or environmental difficulties, incidents of self harming, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, substance abuse, etc.

None.

In addition to her treatment of her sister and her teacher, Clarice habitually exploits others for her own gratification, expects special treatment, has an inflated sense of self-importance, and fails to see that how she treats other people is hurtful. In her current residence, she has antagonized not only her roommate, but also the other girls and the woman running the place. She feels that their refusal to accompany her to church (she is escorted to church by a worker at the place she's staying) is a rejection of her. The threat of not allowing her to attend church on Sundays is the only way to compel her to be amiable towards others.

Have you ever seen a licensed psychiatric professional, psychologist, or counsellor for these ailments? If yes, please list doctor(s) or counsellor(s) below:

I have a court-mandated therapist twice a week. Her name is Brenda Edwards.

Do you take any medications for any diagnosed psychiatric ailments? If yes, please list medication, dosage, and frequency of dosage below:

Risperdal 0.5 mg once daily. I don't like taking it because I don't need it, but they make me take it anyway. Obedience is a virtue, I guess.

Have you ever been admitted to a short or long-term psychiatric facility as a result of these ailments or associated incidents?

The group home I'm in now is supposed to be for 'disturbed' girls. Does that count?

Clarice is currently staying in a facility that cares for troubled girls. Many of the cases are of eating disorders or behavioral problems, and most of the girls are required to attend therapy. She does not attend school currently, instead being educated by a tutor who comes three days a week to instruct all of the fifty or so girls that live there. She had a short stay of two weeks in a mental facility before being assigned to her current residence.

How do you feel these ailments affect your quality of life or your situation in life?

I don't know, since I don't suffer from any ailments.

If you could be cured of your ailments, what would your goals in life be?

My goal in life is to be a good Christian woman.

How do you feel these goals would be best attained?

I always try and do my best to live a Christ-centered life. I also try and set a good example for others.

Why do you feel you are being referred to Highgrove, and by whom?

I cannot stay here because my roommate is a psychopath. She assaulted me for no reason--and when she really ought to be thanking me nonetheless--and continues to threaten me and use obscene language and gestures in my presence.

Clarice attempted to re-establish the pattern of dominance she enjoyed over her younger sister, antagonizing and destroying the property of her roommate. Unfortunately for Clarice, her roommate was not willing to be passive or docile. The young woman suffered from a conduct disorder, and attacked Clarice when she caught her trying to throw away most of her belongings. Clarice had already destroyed many of the items so that they were useless. Clarice was beaten so badly by her roommate that she required six stitches over her right eyebrow, and her left wrist was fractured. Despite this, she continued to antagonize the girl, including several attempts to frame her for various misbehaviors. I fear that Clarice is no longer safe in this environment.

The Spoken, Representative Interview

Hello, and thank you for meeting with me today. Our interview today will be recorded for review later. I'm going to ask you a series of questions, and I'd like for you to answer as fully as you are able. I'd like to start by asking you how you're feeling today.

Fine, thank you.

Patient Observation: Clarice appears composed and smiles pleasantly.

Okay. And how are you feeling about this opportunity to join our family at Highgrove?

Not to sound ungrateful, but I'd rather have my real family back, actually.

If you could alter one event in your life, what event do you think you would change or remove, and why?

If Father had removed this cup from my lips, perhaps I could have lived a more ordinary life. Although, while that might have been easier, I know Father has blessings stored up for me in the hereafter.

Patient Observation: Clarice speaks clearly, her head held high, her posture perfect, and an arrogant expression on her face. It's clear she believes what she's saying.

If you had to describe yourself in only three words, what words would you choose and why?

Good Christian Woman. I believe that this encompasses not only who I am now, but who I am trying to become.

How do you feel currently about your life so far, and anything you may have done?

I have done only what was required of me. Unfortunately, I can choose only my own actions, and not those of others.

Patient Observation: Clarice's tone turns condescending when she speaks of others.

What would you do if you found a stranger being attacked by another stranger, and why?

I would try and call for an authority figure. Failing that, I would intercede on the victim's behalf.

What would you do if you were being threatened by a stranger, and why?

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Patient Observation: Clarice holds eye contact as she tonelessly recites this passage. She cannot be coaxed to answer the question any other way.

Have you ever deliberately harmed yourself, another, or animals in the past? If so, why do you think that was?

No. What kind of person do you think I am?

Patient Observation: Clarice is clearly offended at this question, and her facial expression registers indignation and contempt.

And lastly, what do you hope to find at Highgrove, and how do you think this will help you to learn and grow?

I trust that if I go to Highgrove that Father has a purpose for sending me there. Is that all? May I be excused?

This concludes our interview for today. Thank you for filling out our application and speaking with me. We will contact you or your guardian shortly with our decision or recommendations. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your day. Goodbye.

Out of Character Section

Is there anything your character is not telling us? Do they have any dirty or dark little secrets they're omitting from their application? Please explain below.

Clarice is indeed aware of her mother's infidelity, although she prefers an alternate explanation. When she was eleven, she overheard her paternal grandparents discussing her mother by saying something to the effect that Clarice might not be her father's child. Clarice believes that her biological father may be an angel or other divine personage. This, combined with her birthmark has lead Clarice to deeply believe that she is chosen of God to proclaim His gospel.
